All Members,

Pitches 1 & 2 are now lazered levelled and drainage installed, topsoil will be going on this week and seeding should be done by the end of the month.

Light rain and a warm autumn will to get the grass grown. The pitches will green up fairly quickly but we must be patient and let the turf and roots develop properly so as we don’t cut it up and ruin it.

We are expecting to play our first fixture on the these pitches in April, any earlier would be a surprising bonus. We are behind schedule as a result of the late planning permission and struggling to get enough trucks to move the soil in fast enough, but every cloud has a silver lining and due to the delay we will now have a pitch for the whole season.

Pitch 4 is a really good pitch, with the banks for spectators, the view from the top of the bank is as good as any grandstand! It is a little remote from the clubhouse but we are providing refreshments at the pitch side.

There’s enough soil stacked on P3 to do both the remaining pitches and as there will be no delay in permission or transport we will press on with these as soon as we open P1&2. I’m totally confident we will have all 4 pitches available for next September.

We will most likely push Pitch 2 & Pitch 3 down a bit towards the river and utilise the freed up area for training, we hope to fit new lights to the reverse side of the old mound lights to provide additional floodlighting on pitches 3 & 4.
We may even have the possibility of a cricket square…..
We are also creating vehicle access to the mound from the car park so we can utilise it for car parking on festival’s and big events.

Irrigation is up and running and this will make a big difference to the quality of the grass in the longer term. Grow good grass roots in the summer and it stands far more wear in the winter.

I know it is disruptive at the moment but please keep the faith and it will be amazing when it’s all done.

We have lots of other ideas but enough to be getting on with for now.

A massive thank you to all the grounds crew led by Paul Crooks, we have a great crew with  mixed talents. The unseen heroes!

Come down and see what’s going on, we have a some great home fixtures coming up.
