Peterborough RUFC entertained league leaders Lutterworth this past Saturday and would suffer a heartbreaking loss after being ahead by 15 points with only 5 minutes to go. Well it was a huge improvement on the previous week Borough were yet again there own worst enemies.
Borough would score first with a Byron Van Uden penalty but Lutterworth would show why they are the team to beat this seasoned and answered with a try of their own. Another Van Uden penalty was followed by a Aram Jones converted try. Lutterworth would reply with back to back tries which in turn Borough answered with a Tshepo Mooki converted try to give Borough a well deserved 22-15 lead going into half time.
The second half saw Borough in complete control with Van Uden landing two more penalties which was accompanied by a converted try to hard working second row Luke Swindells. With a healthy 30-15 lead and only 5 minutes to go Borough would implode. First Lutterworth scored 2 quick converted tries to bring the score to 29-30. With only 2 minutes left to play Borough had a penalty near Lutterworths tryline. Borough decided to run the penalty to run down the clock. With the ball securely with Boroughs forwards everything was going to plan then disaster struck. With time all but up Borough decided to shift the ball wide through their backs, Lutterworth couldn't believe their luck as they intercepted a pass and ran 95 metres to score the most unlikely of tires and also victories. Borough were left to wonder what could of been which is quickly becoming the theme for this season.
DOR Shane Mannings Comments "absolutely gutted. For 75 minutes we were playing the best rugby I have seen us play for a long time. We were in complete control and through all that hard work out the window. We have lost our last 3 games by 5 points and every time it has been our own fault. Its not the physical side of the game its the mental. I do feel for the guys cause they played their hearts out. Zac McClure and Robert Moulds were outstanding and Byron Van Uden controlled the game really well from flyhalf. This one will hurt for a while but we are going to have pick ourselves up as we have Market Harborough away this coming Saturday and they really hard to beat. "
