Daventry RFC

18 - 22

(HT 0-0)

Peterborough RUFC

Peterborough RUFC were on the road in their latest fixture against 5th placed Daventry and came away with a much needed win by 22-18.

Peterborough had a sluggish start and went behind after Daventry scored with a penalty kick. For the rest of the half however Borough were in the ascendancy. With a lineout in the Daventry 22 Borough set up a driving maul with hooker Miguel Alves scoring. Borough's second try came after relentless pressure on the Daventry tryline, scrum half Pat Webb side stepped two home defenders on his way to scoring a well taken try. With usual kicker Byron Van Uden unavailable Webb also took on the kicking duties and succeeded in converting both tries and adding a penalty right on halftime.. Borough could be happy with the first half and deserved their 17-3 lead, the big question however would be if they could maintain it in the second half.

As has been the norm this season Borough weren't at the races for the majority of the second half. With Daventry now on top it was no surprise when they scored two well taken tries, with one being converted. Daventry were well in truly back in the game. Borough was not helped by injuries to flyhalf Brendan Burke, wing Nic Langton and high-flying centre Tshepo Mooki. Daventry then took the lead with a penalty kick and Borough had conceded 15 unanswered points and were now behind by 18 points to 15. With time running out Borough were looking like losing another game but with Daventry on attack Borough wing Michael Teague managed to read a Daventry pass and intercepted it and outpaced the chasing opposition to run 70 metres and score what would be the match winning try. With the final whistle Borough had won by 22-18 and secured their first away win of the season.

Director of Rugby Shane Manning's comments " the lads deserved the win. As usual it wasn't pretty but a win away from home was vital for us. The next game at home against Oadby Wyggs will be even tougher. We have around 10 first team regulars unavailable due to one thing or another so our depth is really going to be tested. Hopefully playing at home will be a help and the lads selected have an opportunity to show what they are made of."
