Peterborough RUFC

36 - 34

(HT 0-0)

Old Northamptonians RFC

Peterborough RUFC entertained Old Northamptonians at Fengate this past Saturday and came out victorious by scoreline of 36 - 34 and secured their first win of 2022

Boro dominated the early part of the game and raced out to an 8 -nil lead thanks to a Byron Van Uden penalty kick and a Zak McClure try.

The Yound Northamptonians side however scored a brace of penalities and a try to get themselves into the game, but a Ross Chamberlain try gave Bor 18 - 13 half time lead.

Boro started the second half slowly which allowed ON's to score a converted try and take the lead at 20-18. Boro began to make good ground particularly through their forwards with Michael Hall, Josh Myles and Stu Day making good runs. This led to Boro scoring two excellent tries with Rob Jacobs and Willis Ingleby dotting down.

With the score line at 33 points to 20, Boro were guilty of switching off thinking the game was won. ON's roared into life and scored two great converted tries themselves and took a slender 34 - 33 lead into the last 3 minutes to play. Boro had a last minute heartbreak of a week ago fresh in their minds, but they worked hard to get themselves up the pitch and were rewarded with a penalty which was calmly slotted by Van Uden. Boro saw out the last minute of play and had earned a hard fought entertaining game.

My comments: "Pleased to finally get another win. The lads had worked hard at training during the week and were desperate to get back to winning ways. When we stuck to our structure and systems we looked realy good but as in the last couple of games we switched off at times and gave the opposition opportunities. We have West Bridgford at home this week and they will be a stern test. We probably played our best game when we beat them earlier on in the season, but they are now second in the league and will be very confident. We will have to be even better than last time so it's back on the training paddock this week to get ourselves ready"
