Peterborough RUFC

52 - 7

(HT 0-0)

Towcestrians RFC

Peterborough First team opened their Regional 2 Midlands East season with a 52-7 victory over Towcestrians. Debut's were given to Alec Barradell at scrum half, Harry Redmile and Lawrence Teague would see action from the bench.

Fortress Fengate was bathed in sunshine as Towcester kicked off. Borough were straight on the attack and were dominant for most of the first half. It took 10 minutes for scrum half Alec Barradell to get his first try for his new team as he darted over from 15 metres out, Ryan Morris was successful with the conversion. Towcester were rarely out of their own half and it was from a turned over scrum that Andrew Dewdney broke and managed a lovely offload to Ryan Morris for a great try. Next up hard running centre Ian Williams broke away from the defence and showed good pace to run in from 50 metres, the try was converted by Lawrence Teague and gave the home side a 19-0 halftime lead.

Peterborough kept the tries coming after the break. Dewi Pearce scored the first of his 2 tries after a quickly taken penalty saw him put into space and run in from 30 metres, much to the surprise of his team mates, try converted by Teague. Next up Tshepo Mooki scored from 40 metres which was closely followed by Pearce's 2nd from a 30m rolling maul. Hard working prop Chris Sykes then barged his way over from close range to keep the score board ticking over. Right from the following kick off Teague scored his first senior try after a 50 metre run down the sideline. Towcester did manage a converted consolation try to make the final score 52-7.

DOR Shane Mannings comments " was a great result for our first game. We were a bit rusty in the first half but once the lads settled down they were in complete control. I was really happy with how new scrum half Alec Barradell went, his defence for me was top notch. From the forwards Andrew Dewdney was great adding a bit of calmness to the side and Vice Captain Robert Moulds was at his rampaging best. Everyone really played well but as always there is still a lot to work on before we play Kettering next at Fortress Fengate,3pm kick off."
