Peterborough RUFC

35 - 19

(HT 0-0)

Leicester Forest RFC

Peterborough RUFC entertained Leicester Forest on Saturday looking to avenge their narrow defeat away earlier in the season and finish the year on a high. After a dominant display Borough came away with a win by a scoreline of 35-19.

Borough started off brightly and despite playing into a stiff breeze controlled the game well. After losing fly half Byron Van Uden early to an ankle injury, Ross Chamberlain showed his experience by directing the team well. Borough's first try was scored by Andrew Dewdney after breaking from a dominant maul. It was after more sustained forward pressure that Zac McClure forced his way over from close range for Borough's second try. Forest managed to score a try of their own after a rare trip into Borough's 22. Scrumalf Alec Barradell soon extended Borough's lead however after a typical snipe from scrumhalf. Lawrence Teague took over kicking duties and converted 2 tries to go with Van Uden's 1 conversion which gave Borough a 21-7 half time lead.

Borough kept the pressure on from the beginning of the second half and soon had two more tries. The first try went to winger Mooki Tshepo-Olebile who finished off a flowing move with some great inter passing. Zac McClure then added his second of the day thanks to a high quality 20 metre miss pass from Chamberlain, both tries converted by Teague. Leicester Forest kept in the fight and managed a couple late tries of their own. With the final whistle Borough had secured a 35-19 win and end the year on a high.

Director of Rugby Shane Manning's comments "it was a vastly improved performance from previous weeks. We played with more control and stuck to the game plan for the most part. Ross Chamberlain controlled things really well after taking over at flyhalf and Zac McClure took his 2 tries well.

We have a two week break now over Xmas and New Year and the lads can rest up ready for the second half of the season. We are away to League leaders Lutterworth first game back so hopefully we can use Saturday's performance to give us confidence and have a good crack at them".
