Oadby Wyggestonian's were the latest visitors to Fortress Fengate taking on a Peterborough 1st XV side who were looking to bounce back from a record defeat the previous game. With no less than 11 changes from that game the Boro outfit managed to the right those wrongs of two weeks ago with a tense 20-17 win.
Borough started very brightly and scored an early try to scrum half Alec Barradell after some great interplay. Oadby then began to grow onto the game and after a penalty kick they soon had their first try to take a 10-5 lead. Borough then managed to score to great tries. The first was scored by loose forward Ashton Webb after Borough had counter attacked from their own tryline, after several phases Webb ran in from 40 metres out. Then from the restart young second row Will Manning caught the kick off then ran 50 metres, showing surprising foot work to go with a great fend to score a try that will be talked about for weeks. With the conversion to Lawrence Teague Borough had a good halftime lead, 17-10.
The second half was very tight with neither side being able to score. Teague then kicked what would prove to be a crucial penalty kick to extend their lead to 20- 10. Oadby started to have some success after Borough failed to exit from their half. After sustained pressure Oadby had their try and Borough's lead was cut to 20-17.
Credit to the home side though as they held off wave after wave of attack from the visitors to take a well deserved 20-17 win.
DOR Shane Mannings comments " was a great team effort. As usual there are things we can do better but after the last month or so with injuries and availability I was just happy with the win. Ross Chamberlain ignited our attack well and we produced some really good stuff and should of had 3 or 4 more tries. We have another week off before we travel to Olney, hopefully we can keep this team together and come away with a positive result"
