These two teams were second and third in the league table and Derby had won the first meeting. It was all to play for and both teams were hungry for the win.
Boro were the first to put points on the board from a quick penalty to see poppy over the line out wide (5 - 0). The fight for possession was fierce and went from team to team. Derby were able to break through the defence and score out wide (5 - 5). For the next 20 minutes neither team were able to get over the line. It was end to end stuff. The final play saw Abi Sole-Potter get over the try line (10 - 5).
Half-time 10 - 5
Second half saw Boro receive the ball from the kick-off and attack up the wing. Derby were quick to defend. The arm-wrestle up and down the pitch continued with each team attacking and defending with high intensity. Boro made the most of a penalty and kicked for the posts (13 - 5). Boro were quick to get back up the park and keep the pressure on. Annie took a penalty kick for territory to see Boro with the line-out on the 5 metre. Erica was able to score from the back of the driving maul line-out (18 - 5). It was then Boro's turn to defend. Derby were attacking our try line and the defence was epic. Boro were able to hold one try up and then were awarded the try-line kick following a double movement. Derby were quick to re-gather the ball and were on the attack again and this time were rewarding with the converted try (18 - 12). Still time for lots more scrums and attacking play. Utilising the boot, Boro were edging up the pitch from penalty kicks but were more than happy to win the lineout and kick the ball out for full-time.
Exhuasting game, with both teams being equally matched, but played with a great attitude so that all players enjoyed the game. Wishing Derby every sucess for the rest of the season.
