Newly promoted PRUFC Ladies were back in action on Saturday with an impressive half a century win over Wymondham Wasps Ladies away.

After a long pre-season with several games cancelled it was time for the ladies to blow way the cobwebs and get back on the field. It was an early start for the team as they travelled to Wymondham Rugby Club for a lunchtime Saturday fixture. Over the summer PRUFC have seen strong recruitment and the team sheet reflected this with lots of new names running out for the side in red, gold and silver.

After kick off it wasn’t long before PRUFC got on the score board with a try from Vice Captain Maddy which she followed with a conversion. Not long after it was time for Poppy to take it over the line for another try. Then like buses it was time for debutant Paige to get the forwards in on the action with another try converted by Maddy. The team then settled as the opposition got into the action but it wasn’t long before Poppy took it over the line again after some nifty backs plays. Just before half time it was debutant Annie’s turn to get in on the action with a conversion by Maddy.

Half time Wymondham Wasp 0 – 31 PRUFC Ladies

Half time saw some changes for PRUFC and it wasn’t long before new to rugby Steff got her first try ever, converted by Maddy. After some strong defence from Wymondham, the forwards used their systems to create an opportunity for Charlotte to crash over the line for her first try in a PRUFC shirt. As time ticked away, both sides had great play. One last try for Annie with a conversion took borough to half a century before full time.

After the game Elinor Grant, Ladies Captain said “Today’s game saw the team playing their first match following promotion to NC1, and what a statement they have made! It was a real team performance from Peterborough, coming up against strong opposition in Wymondham Wasps. Training is paying off, with lots of successful turnovers and ultimately winning the battle for possession seeing our ladies score an impressive series of tries across both the pack and the backline. We’d like to thank Wymondham for their hospitality and a really positive and friendly game.”

Next up the ladies return to Fortress Fengate for their first home game against Old Northamptonians on Sunday 24th September KO 2pm.
