Papa Johns Community Cup Competition - Intermediate Cup - Round 2
Next knock-out round of the RFU cup and we were drawn against championship 2 side, Bury St Edmunds. We knew this would be a team who would bring their A game and we were up for the challenge.
The first 15 minutes, saw the two teams sizing each other up, with Peteborough showing some great attacking play. Bury Foxes opened up the scoreboard with a coverted try. P'Boro took a hit to the back line with both the centres leaving the pitch injured. Bury had a very strong back line and put their runners to good use, scoring another 4 converted tries.
Half-time: 0 - 35
Bury were first to score with a converted try at the start of the second half then P'Boro upped the game ready for the arm wrestle. Great runs from the backs, scrums were dominant and the game plan was working. Penalty count was high in P'boros favour seeing them march closer and closer to the try line. Penalty move on the 5-meter helped create the space for Maddy to muscle in over the line.
Full-time: 5 - 42
Coach, Ade James, and captain, Elinor Grant, were happy with the second half performance (1 try a piece) and how the team dug deep for the whole game. Quote from the club's President "We learn from games like this!" and how right he is. The fire in the belly is strong and this game has shown P'boro the potential they have.
Forward of the match - Laura Fulcher
