Today was going to be a big game, playing the league leaders, but with a home crowd and a good wind, Boro knew a win was within their grasp.
Peterborough received the ball from the kick-off and it was an edgy start, a knock-on, a scrum to Boston and straight to defending. P’Boro weren’t phased though and defended until the ball was regained and winger, Abi Sole-Potter, was able to hotfoot it through the Boston defence to score 2 minutes after kick-off. Converted by Maddy Buckland (7 – 0). Boston were next to respond with a converted try (7 – 7). Boro were back up to the try line and with a beautiful pickup from the back of the ruck for prop, Ruby James, to crash over the line (12 – 7). Boston were quick to come back and run in 2 tries in the next 10 minutes (12 – 19). The remainder of the half saw both teams testing each other and neither able to score.
Half time 12 - 19
The second half score doesn’t reflect the game, Boro had attacking moments of greatness but were punished at every scrum. Boston used their weight advantage in the scrum and caused havoc to the set piece, with Boro unable to win any of their own scrums cleanly. Boston kept their strong runners coming and certainly upped their game in the second half, showing why they are currently unbeaten at the top of the table. Great game and we look forward to the return game in April.
