Who doesn't love a little play on words! Welwyn were a very determined, well-drilled, side and came out of the blocks all cyclinders firing. Scoring in the first 2 minutes of the game (0-7). This was going to be a hotly contestd game. P'boro regrouped and were ready for the challenge.gic
Settling the nerves with a beautiful passage of play. Forwards winning the scrum and letting the backs work their magic. Through the centres, full back crashing through, out to the winger, to pop to the other winger, Steff De Gracia, to score out wide (5 -7). Steff was having a great game, collecting a pass from her thigh, holding on and still managing to get over the line (10-7), converted by Maddy Buckland (12-7). Our number 10, Jaz Devereux, was next to spot the gap and able to score under the posts (17-7), converted by Maddy (19-7). Steff finished the half with a hatrick (24-7).
Half time 24 - 7
The second half was a real arm wrestle, a great contest between both teams. Jaz was able to score for P'Boro (29-7) but Welwyn were not making it easy. There were long periods of attack and defence. It wasn't long after a yellow card for P'Boro that Welwyn were able to make the most of having the extra player and score (29-12). Was a great game to watch.
