Peterborough RUFC

41 - 19

(HT 0-0)

Olney RFC

Peterborough RUFC came away with a 41-19 win at Fortress Fengate on Saturday against a young Olney side. The game didn't get off to the best start for Borough when they lost Captain Luke Swindells to a dislocated elbow after just 5 minutes. After a settling down period Borough were dominating possession and territory but a lack of direction and execution let them down. Despite not being at their best Borough still came away with 3 tries with Nick Langton, Will Bell and Aram Jones scoring. With Byron Van Uden converting two of the tries Borough had a healthy 19-0 halftime lead.

Credit to the young Olney side who started the second half the far better of the two sides. Olney were helped by some ill discipline from Borough who had completely gone away from their own structure and were on the wrong side of the referee. Olney were in control of the next 30 minutes and scored 3 tries, two were converted to bring the scores level at 19 points all. Despite looking down and out Borough went back to their structure and began to wrestle the game back. With all the momentum Borough went onto finish the stronger and scored 3 unanswered tries with Pat Webb scoring 2 and Callum Cruickshank also scoring. Van Uden added another conversion and a penalty and Rob Jacobs added conversion for a fulltime score of 41-19.

Director of Rugby Shane Manning comments " while it was good to get a bonus point win the performance was no where near what the we expect of ourselves. There were some glimpses of what we can do but thats not good enough. There were still some very good performances. In particular Alfie Lewis carried and tackled well and new recruit George Lindley deserved his man of the match award. We have a tricky away fixture next up at Wellingborough. Hopefully the lads can play some where near their potential so we can get the win."
