Peterborough RUFC

75 - 0

(HT 10-0)

Wellingborough RFC

Peterborough RUFC entertained bottom side Wellingborough RUFC on a day where they celebrated the life club stalwart Tony McClure who passed away in September unveiling a bench seat in his honour. On the pitch the team did him proud by running out winners 75-0, scoring 11 tries in a very one sided game. Borough also took the opportunity to give starts to scrumhalf Tom Kemp and second row Dan Foreman and also welcomed back Will Manning who was playing his first game of the season after recovering from jaw surgery.

From the first whistle Borough were on the front foot dominating possession and territory. The first of 5 first half tries went to Dave Harding-Prior scoring on the back of a rolling maul. Dylan Evan's scored two of his three tries along with Alfie Lewis and Max Arnold. Byron Van Uden converted all but one try for a halftime lead of 33-0.

The tries kept on coming in the second half. With the Borough scrum pushing Welling off their own ball constantly and with several turn overs Borough were a constant threat. Backs and forwards were combining well with Welling always on the back foot Borough kept scoring with Captain Luke Swindells, Sam Cowell, Murphy Hill, Van Uden, Evans and Arnold all scoring. As dominant as Borough were in attack they were just as affective in defence and the coaches will be just as pleased with keeping the opposition scoreless. Next week Borough play their final game of the year away to one of the league favourites Bedford Athletic and will be looking cause a big upset.

Director of Rugby Shane Manning's comments " obviously we are happy with the performance as the game could been really tough if we had'nt been focused. The scrum was very dominant and the lads defended well and its always good keeping an opposition to zero points. Young scrumhalf Tom Kemp was our man of the match as he kept the tempo of the game high. Our focus is now on Bedford Ath next week. It goes without saying that we will have to be at our best to get a result but we have been playing well and just need to go and have a crack at them. "
