Peterborough RUFC

5 - 34

(HT 0-0)

Market Harborough RUFC

Peterborough RUFC took on league leaders Market Harborough at Fortress Fengate this past Saturday and were well beaten by 34-5. The home side did have their moments during the game but the Champions elect had to much class for the injury hit Borough team.

Borough kicked off and did have some early success but Harborough scored first after a dominant scrum saw their number 8 crash over from close range for a converted try. Borough however kept trying and were have some success with their maul and it was from a maul that they had their first and only try of the game when David Harding-Prior crashed over. The rest of the half saw Borough defending their line and to their credit they did keep Harborough to just the one more try and penalty kick to go into half time 17-5 behind.

Any thoughts of a Borough come back though were quickly dashed as Harborough took control and enjoyed a dominant 20 minutes and scored another 3 tries with one being converted. The final quarter of the game had Borough show some defensive metal and keep Harborough scoreless with stand in Captain Will Bell , Alfie Lewis and Tom Downer repeatedly putting their bodies on the line. With the final whistle Harborough had run out deserved winners by 34-5 and will rightly deserve being promoted as league champions barring a complete loss of form.

Director of Rugby Shane Manning's " Harborough are best team in the league and deserved winners. With our current issues with injuries we can be proud of the effort the lads gave. There is 5 games left in the regular season so there is everything to play for. We are still 5th but have Stamford breathing down our necks. We still have some tough games to play and after another week off we will be travelling to Broadstreet. Hopefully we will have a few lads back from injury and get back to winning ways".
