Hitchin Rugby Ltd

68 - 0

(HT 46-0)

Peterborough RUFC

Another warm day and 14  players went to to Hitchin for the second league game of the season.  Playing against a full 22-man Hitchin squad it was always going to be a big ask to win playing a man down but P'Boro were up for the challenge.

Hitchin were strong and it wasn't long before they got some points on the board.  It also wasn't long until P'boro were down to 13 players and Hitchin tries kept coming in.

Half time score 46 - 0

Team mantra was sheer determination and bloody mindedness.  If we couldn't win we would at least make it a hard work.  Players were throwing their bodies into every tackle, chasing down every try and keeping the try scorers pinned to the sidelines.  Hitchin were missing all the conversions and we were grateful for small mercies!  Playing 2 men down was taking its toll so we threw another injury into the mix and played with 12 players.  We rode it out to 60 minutes and then the team called it a day.  Result stands, Hitchin get the win bonus point and the poor physio gets a rest!

Full time score 68 - 0

Thank you to the Hitchin for their hospitality and to the match officials.

Head coach, Hugh Burnham, picked Nat Elliott and Megan Brown as his forward and back of the match.  Player's player went to Melanie Fulcher.  For a blonde moment in the line-out, dick of the day was awarded to George Moody.

We're taking October off for the rugby world cup, to recooperate and for a wedding.  See you in November for our first home game of the season.
