Peterborough RUFC entertained Lutterworth in their first home game of the season and ran out 25-15 winners. Boro made hard work of this win with some occasional sloppy lapses in concentration but when they needed to played some superb rugby. Lutterworth were first to strike with a penalty which was quickly matched by Boro’s Byron Van Uden. Lutterworth were then camped on the Boro’s try line for long periods but some great defending particularly from Rob Moulds, Luke Swindells and Zac McClure kept them try less. Boro then scored a superb counter attacking try when Rob Jacobs chooses to run back a Lutterworth kick, after slipping by some would be defensive, he passed to Zac McClure who scored and excellent try. The conversion was missed to give Boro a 8 – 3 half time lead. After half time break Boro went to sleep and conceded 2 quick tries to hand Lutterworth a 15-10 lead. After a few more minutes of some disjointed play Boro began to dominate in both possession and territory. With Lutterworth beginning to tire the home side’s backs began carving up the opposition. Boro scored 2 very good team tries, firstly Ryan Morris and then Rob Jacobs combined with Van Uden penalty Boro ran out well deserved winners by 25 points to 15. Head Coach Shane Manning’s comments: “We are still our own worst enemies at times, we seem to play at times like we have to score immediately instead of just having some patience and trusting our possession. We gave up one try that was completely avoidable and extremely frustrating but there was still a lot of positives. Our defence at times was awesome and when we want to, we can play some good attacking rugby. Out two wingers on Saturday in particular, Rob Jacobs and Willis Ingleby played well. They made some good decisions on both attack and defence. We now shift our focus Market Harborough. Away games are always tricky and we if want to come away with a win we will.
