Peterborough RUFC

10 - 15

(HT 0-0)

West Bridgford RFC

Peterborough RUFC went down 15-10 on Saturday to West Bridgford at Fengate in their latest East Midlands 1 league game.

A minute’s silence was held before kick off in memory of Boro's Rob Kitchen who was under 15s coach, and former first team captain John Everitt who both recently passed away.

West Bridgford were out of the blocks very quickly and had Boro under a lot of pressure which led to a simple converted try under the posts.  Boro, as has been the case all season responded and turned the tables on Bridgford but due to ill discipline Boro were unable to capitalise.  The rest of the half was very even but Bridgford finished out the half by adding a penalty to take a 10-0 lead into the break.

Peterborough came out firing in the second half and eventually scored a try through Robert Jacobs to get themselves back in the game.  Bridgford then hit back immediately with a try meaning Boro had to chase the game.  Even though Boro did get another penalty to give themselves a chance of sneaking the win but more poor decision-making and lack of discipline was to be their undoing and West Bridgford had gotten revenge for the loss suffered earlier in the season.  Final score 15-10.

West Bridgford are now second in the league with Boro moving into 3rd thanks to their losing bonus point.

My Comments; "Just not good enough.  It's not through lack of ability it's lack of self-discipline yet again to stick to the game plan and carry out instructions.  We have a week off now to regroup and focus before playing Lions.  If we are to topple Lions we have to fix the issues we are currently having.  The fact we have lost to them once this season and are playing them at their ground makes them firm favourites which means we have nothing to lose.  I'm sure the home supporters will be hostile and I want them to be - louder the better.  These are games you really look forward to when you’re up against it as we are at the moment, so the lads need to embrace it and enjoy the occasion. We may not play Lions again for a while due to the league restructure so let's enjoy it and have a go at them."
