New England in the Fall (autumn), sounded really good when I saw the fixture list, before Julie pointed out that it was Boston in Lincs. not in Massachusetts ! Nevermind, I'm sure it will be lovely.
Well it was very fruitful for the Boro Ladies who played Boston Ladies earlier this afternoon.
In near perfect conditions (I expect it is windy all the time in Boston), both teams set about each other with an intensity in the first half, but the defences of both sides held strong, and with both Boro and the Boston Bruins giving an indication of how they wanted to play. But the half proved to be scoreless.
The second half saw Boro look to open the game up using their quick backs with quick hands (or should that be use the quick hands of the quick backs ?). But it was a bit of forward grunt saw Boro take the lead. Following some pressure in the Boston Celtics 22, Stephanie was able to crash over for the first try (just as well as there were numbers ready for the ball to be passed), converted by Evé. Evé scored the second, which was a flowing backs move to the outside, and then pace to burn. Boro were now flying, and a third try was scored by Penny, again the Boro backs using the ball really well (well marshalled by Nat at 10). Stephanie was summonsed by the referee for a ticking off (basically playing as you would want your flankers to play). The Boston Red Sox then exerted some pressure and were awarded a try (although from where I was stood, it looked as if Laura had placed herself between the ball and the ground). However, the match official thought otherwise. This spurred the Boro Ladies on even more, and a fourth try was scored by Gemma with he final play of the game.
Final score New England Patriots (based in Boston) 5 Peterborough Ladies 22
A great all round performance from the entire squad, showing that with clean ball, the backs were dangerous, and the pack nice and tidy.
