Peterborough RUFC

37 - 17

(HT 22-12)

Peterborough Ladies 37 Sleaford Ladies 17
Boro Ladies welcomed their visitors from Sleaford to a wintry Fortress Fengate this afternoon, and eventually ran out comfortable winners.
Boro, playing into the hooly in the first half, decided not to have a prolonged defensive arm wrestle, and instead after 6 minutes, Penny finished off a fine move, with Boro getting the ball out to the wing where she was able to step the final defender and cruise to the line.  At this point it looked like Boro were in charge, and Penny added another try after 21 minutes.  Then, our visitors scored.  Stephanie extended the Boro lead with a drift through the defensive line, with Poppy getting the conversion as the wind swirled between the mound and Mt Pithchthree.  And then, the visitors scored again.  So Boro played a bit more rugby and Gemma was able to run an arc to to the tryline.  A kerfuffle on the Sleaford tryline saw our match official display a red card to the visitors captain.  An eye-witness said that the referee called the player in question to him, and she dissed him, just like that.  Red card produced and the visitors reduced to 14.  Surely it would be all Boro, sailing plainly, in the second half ??
Half Time
Boro Ladies 22 - Sleaford Ladies 12
Somehow, it was Sleaford who had the better of the first half of the second half (or third quarter), seemingly camped in the Boro 22, and eventually they scored narrowing the scoreline to less than comfortable.  It was at this point that Boro bucked their ideas up.  Laura, in a trademark romp up the field was stopped by the refs whistle for a knock on.  Boro, now playing in the (lightish) rain were firing on all cylinders.  Lucy was the first to score as Boro's mix of youth and experience (with pace) stretched the defence.  Laura produced the offload of the season to put Poppy in for a try on 65 minutes before Evé scored the final try, again leaving the Sleaford defence floundering.

Next up the final home game of the season, and the Ladies welcome Kesteven to Fortress Fengate (20 February), kick off 2.30.  Lets see if we can get a good crowd down.  The team deserve it.
