Inspired by the Roses success, Peterborough Ladies continued their unbeaten run in NC2 Midland (Central) with a strong performance against a tough Milton Keynes side. From kick off it was clear the opponents weren't going to make it easy for the Peterborough side as defence remained strong. Last minute changes to the starting line-up due to a small car accident on route took a while to bed in, but the Peterborough side were hungry for the line. After a good arm wrestle near the halfway line Peterborough's backs finally got some clean ball to go wide and Jessica Pearce scored the first try of the game which was converted by Maddy Buckland. Milton Keynes hit back from the kick off determined not to let borough back in the 22. The arm wrestle continued for most of the first half ,before Poppy O'Driscoll caught a break with a forward move off the back of a ruck to take Peterborough to 0-12 at half time.
A few changes to the line up at half time saw Alex Atkinson make her debut in a Peterborough shirt. She quickly got stuck in to hussle and bussle around the ruck and making some great tackles to stop the strong Milton Keynes forward making any advancement out of their half. With the wind change Peterborough were keen to increase their kicking game, this provided opportunities for the forward and backs, however these were met by a wall of black and white stripes. After a strong scrum, the Milton Keynes' winger collected the ball at half way and made a great run to score the first and only try of the game for the home team. Peterborough re-grouped and came back fighting and after being camped in the 22 with some great forward play, Maddy Buckland sneaked it over the line for the away side's third try. The rest of the half continued with great play from both sides, until some fantastic hands from the backs creating space for newcomer to the sport Liv Smith, to sprint down the left wing and score her first try ever in the corner. Full time whistle went shortly after, final score: Milton Keynes 5 - 22 Peterborough Ladies Rugby. Thank you to Milton Keynes for a great game and a challenge. Peterborough continue their league run at St Neots Rugby Club on SUnday 23rd October.
